Lady Gro and Her Pouch

Quite a while back, a made a pouch as a gift for someone who did me a kindness in the SCA. This week I was sent a lovely photo of the pouch and its owner, Lady Gro. The photo was taken outside Uppsala Cathedral in Sweden.

Jana's Anglo-Saxon Embroidery

Today I am posting some pictures of work done by Jana, who lives in Slovakia. She used my Anglo-Saxon Embroidery for Clothing handout designs to decorate some clothing she hand made (as in hand sewn - all of it!). She did an outstanding job. Here are some pictures posted with her permission:

Stitching

Finally, on my last day of holidays, I picked up a needle. Got another Bayeux animal finished. I am trying to get the mirror image designs done, so that I have three sets of roundals for sale at Tocal. Should get the third one done tonight. Then onto the next collar and cuffs set. I should have 5 of those done for Tocal as well. If they sell, I will finish the others, if not, I will do them but not in such haste.

Sloth

I'm still alive and kicking. I am being totally unproductive these holidays. I haven't done any sewing, or much of anything else. Ah well, it is holidays. Updates should be more forthcoming over the next couple of days.

Chinese Silk

I'm on holidays at the moment, so I had to make a special trip over to work to check my post box. I was expecting some more Chinese silk. The blue set I bought last time wasn't quite the right colour. This lot is perfect. So I can continue on with the coif and I am also keen to get some more done on the sweetbag.

Cupboards

Got some cupboards delivered today. Can't fill them up yet, as they need to be levelled up and also moved a bit. Normally I could do this by myself but these are a bit heavy. Might have to wait until Dad comes down again. They are in the "dining" room. I did have tables in there, for sewing etc, but since no one ever showed up to the sewing days/nights, didn't seem much point in keeping it that way. I had planned to keep some table space by putting in kitchen cupboard type things, which would give me storage and table top space, but when I got the furniture place, all the space offered by cupboards was too tempting. Sort of regret it now, but no where else to put the cupboards, so I have to use them now.

Previously on...

I'm back. Been offline due to a DVD binge and then deciding to paint the room where the computer is. That room has been painted, the carpet cleaned (good timing for those telemarketers) and some new furniture about to deliver. Waiting for that now.

I've got the computer in the lounge room now. So I should be posting a bit more regular.

More Bayeux Animals

Spent last night watching Enterprise (four eps, I couldn't stop myself) and working on some of the mirror images of the Bayeux animals. Done the lion, half way done on the first bird. No photos.

Is It Wrong To Be In Love With My Pot?

So the shopping at the weekend was quasi-sucessful. Every winter when I start cooking soups or stews, I swear that I am going to get a decent cooking pot. The one I had was crap. I had to empty it out, clean the bottom and return contents three or four times because it would catch on the bottom. So I went to the cooking place on the weekend and spent $130 on a new stock pot. Now this is alot of money, but this pot is going to still be around when I die. And afte having used it, it is worth every cent. I cooked Bacon Bone soup and no matter how long I left it without stiring, it didn't catch once. It makes cooking so much more enjoyable. I am in love with my pot!

No Updates

I have done some more sewing on my polychrome coif, but by the time I get home at night it is dark, so I can't get any decent photos. Will have to wait until the weekend (or Thursday when I have to be home for the termite man).

TV and Sewing

Got a bit more done on my coif. No more progress pictures. Watched some more eps of Enterprise, more than I should have but I was enjoying them. I know most people pan it, but I like it.

Things were picking up until I checked my email. I didn't go to Sunday Baronial meeting. Weather was yucky, probably good enough to go, but I just couldn't get motivated. Probably a good thing cause in my email was another message complaining about the group website. How it needs more exciting stuff and hasn't been updated. Well, you can't update if you have no new content. It was just the proverbial straw, so I got really depressed after that. I had been thinking about chucking in the webmistress job, now I have pretty much decided. When I took over, it hadn't been updated in 3 years. I try to keep it fresh, but it's a loosing battle, so now it can be someone elses problem.

This Sucks!!

I am so pissed off. I went to the only shop in the city with wool and the bloody thing has closed down. I was going to go last weekend but other things came up and I thought, that's cool, next weekend will be fine. No it won't. I'd been saving up for ages to have a big shop, to get some more of the lovely pea green for a Viking coat and some teal for maybe an Elizabethan doublet dress. I got there and it was closed, the guy who owns it was just going in and I asked and he said they shut the week before.

It such a minor thing but it put me in a foul mood and now I'm really down. I know I shouldn't let the little things like this bug me, but they do. It was made worse by the fact I was going to go to see X-Men but it wasn't on at the movies close to me. And I didn't feel like going to the next closest ones. So totally bummed. I went and spent the money on the last two seasons of Star Trek Enterprise instead. They never got around to showing those on free to air TV. Just getting up to them on Foxtel but I just needed a bit of a boost. So I watched the first couple of episodes. I am rationing so I have something to watch on the upcoming long weekend.

Polychrome Coif

Finally got some pictures of the polychrome coif, not too great, but give an idea of what is going on. I will get some better ones on the weekend. The stitch used is detached buttonhole. You work around the motif in chain stitch, and catch the foundation thread on the inside loop of the chain stitch. Bar goes from right to left. You work the detached buttonhole over the bar from left to right.

This is about three hours work. Most of that is me getting used to working with the Chinese silk floss thread. It really is like floss, it snags very easily (worse than the Eterna stranded), it even "catches" on itself. But it has so much shine and a great feel. And so cheap!
